On May 8, the final of the Challenge Cup College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition of Hebei Province 2023 came to an end. Students of NEU at Qinhuangdao won seven grand prizes, and NEU at Qinhuangdao won the Outstanding Organization Award.
The competition was co-organized by Hebei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Hebei Education Department, Hebei Association for Science and Technology, Hebei Academy of Social Sciences and Hebei Students Federation, and presented by Hebei University of Technology. Themed Revitalizing Hebei and the Chinese Nation with Youth and Ambition, the competition consisted of three categories: academic papers in natural sciences, social investigation reports in philosophy and social sciences, and scientific and technological inventions. A total of 389 teams from 79 universities across Hebei Province were selected for the final.
NEU at Qinhuangdao has been attaching great importance to the preparatory work of the Challenge Cup competition. Since the university-level qualification trials were launched in September 2022, NEU at Qinhuangdao has made every effort to promote the excavation, selection and cultivation of projects. The Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center coordinated internal and external forces and resources to strengthen project cultivation and process guidance. It successively invited experts and entrepreneurs to conduct multiple rounds of simulation debate, project guidance and improvement on the works of participating teams, providing all-round guarantee for the optimization and improvement of the participating projects. NEU at Qinhuangdao recommended 25 works to participate in the provincial-level competition, with 18 selected for the final. After the final list was released on April 22, a 14-day training camp was set up. The training camp focused on the full simulation exercise covering the whole process and links. The advisors sacrificed their May Day holiday to guide the participating students. They provided a total of 70 hours of targeted training and guidance for 103 students of 18 teams, repeatedly deliberating and perfecting each work. What they have done have effectively enhanced the competitiveness of the participating projects.
