Recently, the results of the special contests of “Take up the Challenge” and “Black Science and Technology” in the 18th "Challenge Cup" National College Students’ Extra-curricular Academic Sci-tech Works Competition were revealed. The team of NEU won 1 first prize and 1 second prize in the special contest of "Take up the Challenge"; and 2 fixed star awards (first prize) , 1 planet award (second prize) , and 2 satellite awards (third prize) in the special contest of “Black Science and Technology”. This is the best result in the history of NEU in the "Challenge Cup" National College Students’ Extra-curricular Academic Sci-tech Works Competition.
Themed "You launch a challenge, we’ll face it", the special contest of "Take up the Challenge" adhered to the concept of "regarding the major needs of the country as the guidance, the competition coordination mechanism as the means, and solving practical problems as the goal", and focused on key technologies. In the competition, enterprises proposed needs and topics, the organizing committee issued "hero posts" to colleges and universities, and student teams took up the challenge. There were a total of 21 cutting-edge, applicable and competitive topics announced by Huawei Cloud Computing Technology Co., Ltd., China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and other units. The work titled Research on Optimization Strategy of Efficient and Refined Production Scheduling Decision for Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction - Based on the Steelmaking and Continuous Casting Production Process by the team of Yang Ruimin and Hao Xingyu, directed by teachers Sun Liangliang and Guo Ge from NEU at Qinhuangdao, and the work titled Digital System of Extreme Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction Technology for Sintering Process by the team of Chen Jingran and Du Binghang, directed by teachers Li Haifeng and Huang Liping from NEU, won the national first prize and second prize respectively for the topics selected by China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited.
The special contest of "Black Science and Technology" aimed to explore the objects or technologies that target cutting-edge fields, are sophisticated, or can change people's way of production and life, transcend the existing scientific and technological achievements to some extent, are unexpected, forward-looking, innovative and applicable (or have application prospects). In this competition, the team of NEU won a total of 2 fixed star awards (first prize), 1 planet award (second prize), and 2 satellite awards (third prize).
