On November 14, the founding meeting of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association was held in the NEU International Hotel. Representatives were present at the meeting including Zhang Libo, Vice-president of China Machinery Industry Federation and President of China Foundry Association, Zhao Lixin, former President of the Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Gao Wei, Executive President of China Foundry Association, Xu Enqing, Executive President of Liaoning Foundry Association, Zhang Jian, President of Shenyang Foundry Association, Zhang Anmin, President of Shenyang Die & Mould Association, and Sun Lei, Vice-president of NEU. Relevant officials from the External Liaison and Cooperation Department, the Alumni General Association, and the School of Materials Science and Engineering of NEU, and more than 100 NEU alumni in the foundry industry from all over the country attended the meeting online or offline to witness the establishment of the 105th and 2nd professional alumni associations of NEU.
At the meeting, relevant leaders of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association Preparatory Leading Group reported the preparatory work of the association and reviewed the achievements achieved. The Constitution of NEU Foundry Alumni Association was approved by voting, 15 council members were decided by election, and 12 members including Xu Renrui were elected as the first president, vice-president and secretary-general of the association.
The heads of the External Liaison and Cooperation Department and the Alumni General Association read out the approval document of the Alumni General Association for the establishment of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association, and issued the letter of appointment to the council members of the association. Sun Lei presented the flag for the association.
Professor Zhai Qijie, new President of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association and Assistant President of Shanghai University, delivered a speech on behalf of the first council of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association. He would earnestly fulfill his duties with the vice presidents and council members in the future work, and strive to do a good job in every aspect of the association, he said.
Relevant members of the alumni association read out congratulatory messages from more than 50 alumni associations in New Zealand, Toronto, Vancouver, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and Chongqing. The Metallurgical Equipment Branch of China Special Steel Enterprises Association and the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Central South University respectively sent congratulatory messages to the establishment of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association. Congratulations were given by Zhang Libo from the NEU Alumni Association in Beijing, Hu Danping, Vice-president of the NEU Alumni Association in Shenyang, Xu Enqing from the NEU Professional Alumni Association, Zhang Shiwei from the NEU Vacuum Alumni Association and other representatives of fraternal alumni associations present at the meeting.
At the meeting, a ceremony was held for alumnus Xu Renrui, Honorary President of the NEU Foundry Alumni Association and Chief Editor of the History of Chinese Foundry (Modern Volume), to donate the new book to NEU. It took more than 100 foundry experts seven years to compile this historical volume of nearly 3 million Chinese characters. With 16 sections and 87 chapters, the book presents the development of Chinese foundry over 70 years since the founding of New China.
At the end of the meeting, the present teachers, students and alumni sang together the NEU anthem to wish their alma mater a better tomorrow.
