Recently, the 16th National Structure Design Contest for College Students was held at Changsha University of Technology. NEU won the "Excellent Organization Award" for the first time in the competition. The team led by Wang Chao, Zhou Tian, and Suo Wei under the guidance of teacher Chen Meng and Zhang Tong from the the School of Resources and Civil Engineering of our university, won the national first prize. This is the first time NEU has won the national first prize since participating in this competition in 2009, achieving a historic breakthrough.
The production area of this competition is strictly limited, with a large number of model components and complex operations. NEU team has been dedicated to preparing for the competition for nearly a year. Finally, during the nearly 17-hour on-site production process of the National Finals, NEU team calmly completed the overall model production as planned, and successfully passed the third-level loading, winning the first prize in the national competition.
It is reported that the National Structure Design Contest for College Students was launched in 2005, jointly organized by the Engineering Education Committee of China Association for Higher Education, the Civil Engineering Discipline Professional Guidance Committee of China Association for Higher Education, the Education Work Committee of China Civil Engineering Society, and the Environmental and Civil Water Conservancy Department of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education. It is the highest level and largest student innovation competition in the field of civil engineering, known as the "brightest pearl in the crown of the civil engineering". It is also recognized as a 6-star high-level competition by "Star Classification Table of NEU Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition". A total of 1465 teams from 581 universities across the country participated in this competition. After selection in district competitions, 119 teams from 118 universities were ultimately nominated for the national finals.
