The 35th CCDC (CCDC 2023) Held

From May 20 to 22, the 35th China Control and Decision Conference (CCDC 2023) was held in Yichang, Hubei province. The conference was co-organized by NEU and TCCDCPS, presented by China Three Gorges University, and technically co-sponsored by IEEE Control Systems Association (CSS), CAA Technical Committee on Control Theory (TCCT), and the State Key Laboratory of Synthetical Automation for Process Industries of NEU. A total of 1,398 representatives from universities and research institutions at home and abroad attended the conference, and nearly 100 scholars and well-known experts shared their forward-looking ideas and academic thoughts on the spot.

The conference covered 55 related fields, including control theory and engineering, decision theory and systems, and robot systems. There were four reports, eight outstanding lectures, four high-end forums, five symposiums, 11 special topics, and 109 sub-venue reports. A total of 1,013 papers were published at the conference, and those meeting the IEEE inclusion criteria will be collected by the IEEE databases and retrieved by EI.

12 international academic experts and renowned professors were invited to deliver reports and outstanding lectures on the latest scientific research achievements and hot topics in the field of control and decision. Prof. Wang Yaonan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from Hunan University, Prof. Magnus Egerstedt from the University of California, Irvine, USA, Prof. Eduardo Nebot from the University of Sydney, Australia, and Prof. Marios M. Polycarpou from the University of Cyprus respectively gave a report at the conference. Prof. Zhao Chunhui from Zhejiang University, Prof. Yu Junzhi from Peking University, Prof. Zhou Bin from Harbin Institute of Technology, Prof. Zhang Fumin from Georgia Institute of Technology, Prof. Na Li from Harvard University, Prof. Aaron D. Ames from California Institute of Technology, researcher Cheng Long from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Han Junwei from Northwestern Polytechnical University respectively gave an outstanding lecture. The wonderful reports and lectures made by the experts broadened the participants' academic vision and thinking, and stimulated their vitality in scientific research and innovation.

Such experts as Researcher Wang Chenghong, Vice-chairman of the Chinese Association of Automation, Researcher Tan Min from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Hou Zhongsheng from Qingdao University, Prof. Chen Badong from Xi 'an Jiaotong University, and Prof. Wang Xiaowo from Tsinghua University attended the TCCDCPS High-end Forum. They mainly discussed the cybernetics and frontier theories driven by informatization and intelligence, aimed at sharing academic achievements and experience in the form of reports, exploring the new direction of intelligent control systems in perception and control, and facilitating the development of information theory and control theory under the new strategic layout for China's construction. Prof. Sun Qiuye from NEU, Prof. Huang Yuehua from China Three Gorges University, Prof. Wang Xiaohua from Xi 'an Jiaotong University, Prof. Chen ALian from Shandong University, Prof. Wang Meiling from Beijing Institute of Technology, Prof. Teng Zhaosheng from Hunan University, and Prof. Yang Tao from NEU attended the Summit Forum on Automation Talent Innovative Training and Practice. They shared new modes, new ideas and new methods of innovative training of automation talents, as well as valuable experience and understanding in education practice. Prof. Xu Zeshui from Sichuan University, Prof. Tang Jiafu from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Prof. Zhang Weiguo from South China University of Technology, Prof. Peng Yijie from Peking University, and Prof. Liao Huchang from Sichuan University attended the Summit Forum on Decision Theory Driven by Data-intelligence Integration. They mainly discussed the foundation and frontier decision theory driven by the integration of data and intelligence, aimed at exploring a new paradigm of control and decision theory based on data-intelligence integration through sharing views and summarizing experience, and promoting the new development of intelligent decision and control theory under the new strategic layout for the construction of a digital China. Zhang Wei, Deputy Dean of the College of Information Science and Engineering, NEU, Tang Bo, Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering & New Energy, China Three Gorges University, Xu Bin, Deputy Dean of the School of Automation, Northwestern Polytechnical University, You Yancheng, Executive Deputy Dean of the School of Aerospace Engineering, Xiamen University, and Zhang Zhijia, Executive Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence, Shenyang University of Technology attended the Forum on Young Scholars’ Development. They discussed with the present representatives how young scholars should plan their future development, choose their personal platform and seek their career orientation.

The founder of CCDC is Academician Zhang Siying.  With an aim to encourage and motivate the young generation of scholars to take academician Zhang Siying as a model, Zhang Siying (CCDC 2023) Outstanding Youth Paper Award was established to award those who study hard and seek truth with  pragmatic orientation and determination.  the The award committee is composed of the general chairman of the conference and the chairman of the Procedure Committee, as well as internationally renowned experts, including Prof. Yang Guanghong from NEU, Prof. Wen Changyun from Nanyang Technological University, Prof. Jiang Zhongping from New York University, Prof. Magnus Egerstedt from University of California, Irvine, and Prof. Zhang Fumin from Georgia Institute of Technology. A total of five scholars were nominated for this award. After going through on-the-spot public defense, Chen Xingru from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Liu Zhi from NEU won this award for their outstanding paper quality and on-the-spot presentations.

The Best Paper Award 2022 (Academic Hot Spots) for Control and Decision and the Most Popular Academic Work Award 2023 for Control and Decision were presented at the ceremony. Prof. Yang Guanghong, the general chairman of the conference, on behalf of NEU, awarded the title of Outstanding Organizer of CCDC 2023 to the organizer of the conference, China Three Gorges University, and extended thanks to the university for its outstanding contribution to the success of CCDC 2023.
