On May 31, the Inaugural Meeting of Deep Resources Engineering & International Forum on Deep Resources Engineering 2023 was held in the NEU International Hotel. Qian Qihu, winner of the Highest Science and Technology Awards and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Seokwon Jeon, President of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) and Academician of the Korean Academy of Engineering Sciences (KAES) from Seoul National University, Gao Huanzhi, Vice-president and Secretary-general of the Nonferrous Metals Society of China, and Feng Xiating, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of NEU attended and addressed the meeting. Zhang Chunying, Party Secretary and Vice-president of Liaoning Association for Science and Technology, Cai Li, Leading Party Group member and Vice-president of Shenyang Association for Science and Technology, and hundreds of academicians, experts and scholars from colleges and research institutions at home and abroad were present at the meeting to explore the academic frontier of deep resources engineering. The meeting was presided over by Sun Lei, Vice-president of NEU.
Feng Xiating extended warm welcome to all the present experts and scholars. With the rapid development of science and technology in the field of deep engineering, the journal focuses on the demonstration and dissemination of research results in the field of deep metal mine exploration and mining. It is committed to serving the interdisciplinary theoretical innovation and development from geology to rock mechanics, security, equipment, information and intelligence. Led by Academician Qian Qihu, honorary editor of the journal and under the guidance of academicians and experts, the journal will definitely achieve the goal of high-quality development as soon as possible, he said.
All the participants witnessed the journal inaugural ceremony. The editor-in-chief Feng Xiating and Seokwon Jeon jointly unveiled the editorial office.
In the part of the International Forum on Deep Resources Engineering & Lecture for the Centennial Anniversary of NEU, Academician Qian Qihu delivered a speech on the topic of The Urgent Need of Scientist Spirit to Build a Powerful Country in Science and Technology. He encouraged young scientists to inherit, carry forward and practice the scientist spirit, combine their personal ideals with the major needs of the country, and bravely become pioneers in emerging and cross-cutting fields and leaders in key scientific and technological fields.
Prof. Wang Mingyang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from Army Engineering University of PLA, Prof. Lin Jun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from Jilin University, Academician Seokwon Jeon, Prof. Charlie Chunlin Li, Academician of NTVA from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Prof. Jianfu Shao from the University of Lille, Prof. Zhou Xiaoping from Chongqing University and Prof. Dai Feng from Sichuan University respectively delivered an academic report. These reports are respectively entitled New Research Progress in Deep Rock Mechanics, Innovation in Earth Exploration Equipment Technology to Solve Deep Exploration Problems, Cutting-Edge Technology of Rock Breaking and Excavation, Rupture Characteristics of Explosive Rock and Modes of Rock Burst Energy Transformation, Study on Rock Mechanics Related to Deep Nuclear Waste Geological Disposal, Field Enrichment Finite Element Method, and Progressive Fracture Mechanism of Engineering Rock Mass Dynamic Disaster: New Progress and Engineering Application. They discussed the cutting-edge science and technology of deep resource engineering and the corresponding challenges and opportunities, and shared forward-looking ideas and academic thoughts.
The forum was summarized by Prof. Liu Zaobao, Executive Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Safe Mining of Deep Metal Mines of MOE. Academicians and experts were sincerely invited to pay continuous attention to the series of activities about the journal Deep Resources Engineering and the International Forum on Deep Resources Engineering, and discuss the development plan for scientific and technological innovation in the field of deep resources engineering.
