As a support laboratory of Control Science and Engineering discipline, the Liaoning Engineering Laboratory of Operations Analytics and Optimization for Smart Industry takes the research concept of "Rooted in Industry, Dedicated in Academic", and is dedicated to the scientific and application research in the area of industrial data analytics and optimization, machine learning, plant-wide production and logistics planning of smart industry, production and logistics batching and scheduling, operations analytics and optimization for smart industry, optimal and predictive control for cyber-physics system, continuous mathematical optimization, integer and combinatorial optimization, computational intelligent optimization and engineering applications in manufacturing (steel, petroleum-chemical, nonferrous), energy, resources industry and logistics systems.

The Director, Professor Lixin Tang, is the leader of the Systems Engineering State Key Discipline of Northeastern University, a Cheung Kong Scholars Chair Professor, a member of the discipline review group of the State Council for Control Science & Engineering, a member of discipline Review Group of Management Science Department of NSFC, a member of Distinguished / Excellent Young Scholars Review Group of NSFC, a member of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts Review Group, and the leader of an Innovative Research Group of NSFC. The laboratory possesses an Innovative Research Group of NSFC. By the high-intensity and continued stable support from the NSFC, this Innovative Research Group has formed an internationally competitive and well-known academic brand, brought up an innovative team that leads the international scientific forefront.

In terms of research projects, the laboratory has undertaken several important programs including Innovative Research Group, State Key Program, Distinguished Young Scholars of NSFC and National 863 Program. Among the completed projects of NSFC, four of them were rated “Especially Excellent”, and the project of Distinguished Young Scholars was selected as the representative achievement of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (NSFDYS) in 2014, and the parade achievement of the 20th anniversary of NSFDYS.

In terms of the academic research in the area of production/logistics planning and scheduling, 117 papers have been published in international journals such as OR, M&SOM, INFORMS J. Computing, IIE Trans., NRL, IEEE Trans., EJOR and AOR.

In terms of the laboratory construction and research conditions, the laboratory possesses advanced international experimental platforms and a lot of optimization, simulation, data processing and control software. The laboratory recruits PhD students from disciplines of systems engineering, and recruits Master graduate students from disciplines of systems engineering, control theory and control engineering, and control engineering.
