Key Laboratory of Laser Application Technology and Equipment, Liaoning Province

The construction of the key laboratory of laser application technology and equipment, Liaoning province rely on Northeastern University and approved by provincial science and technology department in 2014. The current director of the laboratory is professor Liu Changsheng. The director of the academic committee is academician Wang Huaming. There are 16 permanent staffs and 10 temporary assistances in the key laboratory.

Powder materials manufacturing technology of laser manufacturing and remanufacturing, advanced laser processing technology, the design and manufacturing of intelligent laser equipment are the main research fields of the key laboratory.

The laboratory covers an area of 3000 square meters for scientific research, office and laboratory room. There are three research platforms, such as the Northeastern University laser application technology research institute in Anshan City, and the laser additive manufacturing laboratory of Northeastern University. The existing 30 equipment such as VIGA/EIGA vacuum induction melting gas atomization equipment for Preparation of metal powder, 700 WYAG laser 3D printer, laser direct deposition system of 1000W, field emission transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with EBSD, X-ray diffractometer, universal material testing machine, vacuum melting furnace and so on can meet the research needs for high level science, technology, product, industrialization technology and so on.

A number of core technologies have been overcome since the establishment of the laboratory, 12 invention patents and 2 utility model patents are granted. The successful researched new material, the new technology and the equipment which has reached the international advanced level, such as laser 3D printing high performance titanium alloy, high temperature alloy, VIGA/EIGA vacuum induction melting gas atomization preparation metal powder equipment system, Laser direct deposition of 3D printers. The developed the laser additive manufacturing metal powder and the industrialization technology of prepared equipment promoted the laser additive manufacturing industry scientific and technological progress and industrial development.

In recent years, the major research achievements are the preparation technology of high performance metal powder for laser 3D printing. A VIGA/EIGA vacuum induction melting gas atomization equipment for the preparation of metal powder equipment system with independent intellectual property rights has been researched and developed. High-performance spherical powder such as TC4, TA15, TC21 titanium alloy, 718 alloy, and 24CrNiMoRe alloy steel for laser 3D printing have been successfully prepared. These alloy powders have a good characteristic of laser 3D printing, and their performance reaches the international advanced level.
