During November 8-13, the 3rd International Conference on Industrial Artificial Intelligence, sponsored by NEU and co-organized by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, the Committee on Big Data of Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) and the Committee on Industrial Artificial Intelligence of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), was held in Shenyang. Chai Tianyou, chairman of the 3rd International Conference on Industrial Artificial Intelligence and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Jin Yaochu, chairman of the International Program Committee of the 3rd International Conference on Industrial Artificial Intelligence and professor from Universität Bielefeld, Germany; Su Chunyi, professor from Concordia University, Canada; Simon X. Yang, professor from University of Guelph, Canada; professor Wang Chenghong, member and vice-president of CAA, as well as well-known experts, scholars and students in the field of industrial artificial intelligence from home and abroad attended the conference online and offline.

The conference consisted of four parts: frontier forum, invited reports, group reports and academic salon.

Themed automation and artificial intelligence, the frontier forum was divided into four sub-forums, namely control science, optimization of complex systems, intelligent modeling of complex systems, and artificial intelligence-driven automation. 74 cutting-edge reports were delivered by overseas well-known experts from such countries and regions as the US, Canada, and the UK.

In the invited report part, Tao Dacheng, vice president of JD, dean of the JD Exploration Academy and academician of the Australian Academy of Science; Bernhard Sendhoff, CEO of Honda Research Institute;and Carlos Artemio Coello Coello, editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation and professor at CINVESTAV, Mexico, respectively made a presentation.

In the group report part, more than 100 reports were organized in more than 10 groups, with the contents involving intelligent monitoring and control of data-driven industrial systems, modeling control and optimization of complex metallurgical process driven by artificial intelligence, computational optimization and learning, and intelligent control of autonomous systems based on neural network. Two reports won the “Best Paper Award” and two the “Student Outstanding Paper Award”.

The academic salon focused the key links of postgraduate education, and took the form of online report. Well-known scholars in the fields of automation and artificial intelligence were invited to comment on the research topic reports and research achievement reports according to postgraduates’ cultivation stage and research direction. 12 candidates for the “Outstanding Research Topic Award” and 12 for the “Outstanding Research Achievement Award” were selected.
