On October 8, the final results of the 7th Material Heat Treatment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students in China sponsored by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society were announced. The participating students from NEU’s School of Material Science and Engineering achieved the best results in the history of NEU in this competition, winning 2 national first prizes and 1 third prize.
The 7th Material Heat Treatment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students in China attracted thousands of students from more than 100 colleges and universities in China, including Harbin Institute of Technology, Hunan University, and Dalian University of Technology. The competition was divided into two stages: group competition and the final. Due to the epidemic of COVID-19, the competition was held online. After going through preliminary evaluation, a total of 256 teams entered the group competition. The works of Study on the Rule of Structure Property Evolution of Super Austenitic Stainless Steel during Homogenization Treatment with Double-roll Thin-strip Continuous Casting directed by teacher Cao Guangming, Computational Design and Experimental Verification of a New Heat-resistant Steel with Self-healing Properties directed by teachers Yu Hao and Xu Wei, and Study on the Preparation and Structure Properties of a Lightweight Steel Fe-12Mn-8Al-0.8C directed by teacher Ding Hua, successfully entered the group competition on behalf of NEU. 77 teams were selected to enter the final after going through basic knowledge Q&A, online defense and scoring by the expert panel. These teams randomly selected word problems about comprehensive knowledge of heat treatment technology, and each team was required to complete heat treatment process design and presentation within 5 days. NEU student Jiang Qiming’s team and Zhang Shiyu’s team successfully entered and performed outstandingly in the final. Both teams won the first prize, with Jiang Qiming’s team as the second place in the final.
