From September 23 to 24, the Fourth Plenary Session of the Third Guidance and Promotion Committee for Communist Youth League Work in the National Steel Industry and the 34th Annual National Conference on Youth Work in the Steel Industry were held at NEU.
On the morning of September 23, the opening ceremony of the conference was held. Guo Hai, Secretary of the CPC NEU Committee, extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the attending guests on behalf of the university. Guo Hai stated that the university’s metallurgy discipline boasts a century-long history, profound heritage, and solid strength, earning it the reputation as the “cradle of metallurgical talent of the Republic.” Looking to the future, the university will adhere to its original aspiration of serving the country through the steel industry and make new and even greater contributions to forging the nation’s backbone of steel. On behalf of the Youth Development Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Guo Meijian expressed high respect to the Party committees of all entities in the steel industry that have long cared for and supported the development of youth causes, and extended sincere greetings to the broad ranks of League cadres, League members, and young people across the steel industry. Tang Zujun delivered a speech addressing the development landscape of the steel industry and the growth and maturation of youth.
The meeting announced the collectives and individuals who achieved outstanding results in the 2025 Steel Industry “Qing’an Cup” (Youth Safety Cup) Competition.
Following the opening ceremony, a frontier science and technology forum was held under the theme of “Digital-Intelligent Empowerment of Industrial Transformation: Youth Courageously Shouldering the Mission of Building a Strong Nation.” Academician Wang Guodong delivered a keynote report titled “Reflections on the Development Strategy of China’s Metallurgical Materials Industry,” focusing on the four major directions of high-end, intelligent, green, and integrated development, as well as the construction of “AI + Steel” and multi-agent systems.
During the conference, themed League Day activities were simultaneously organized, taking participant representatives to revolutionary education bases for study visits to receive patriotic education; campus cultural activities were held to enhance interaction and communication among young people from various organizations, fully showcasing the high-spirited and enterprising demeanor of youth in the steel industry; during the panel discussion sessions, participants from each organization, grounded in the realities of Communist Youth League work, shared practical experiences, analyzed real-world issues, and deliberated on work measures, further consolidating consensus on youth work across the industry.
On September 24, the closing ceremony of the conference was held.
At the meeting, six discussion groups reported their discussion outcomes to the assembly; the principal leading official of the NEU Communist Youth League Committee delivered the conference summary on behalf of all participants, and the principal leading official of the Communist Youth League Committee of Sangang Group, the host organization of the next annual conference, delivered a statement of commitment; a conference flag handover ceremony was also held during the meeting.
