Recently, the team led by Professor Wang Heming of the School of Metallurgy of NEU made new progress in research on climate tipping points. The research findings were published in the international academic journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) under the title "Uneven attention to climate tipping points." Professor Wang Heming of the School of Metallurgy of NEU and doctoral student Chen Bingyu are the co-first authors; Professor Wang Heming, Dr. Ma Fengmei of the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Asaf Tzachor of Reichman University–University of Cambridge are the co-corresponding authors, and NEU is the first affiliation unit. Co-authors of the paper also include Professor Nico Wunderling of Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany and Professor Timothy M. Lenton of the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
This work provides a new quantitative basis for identifying potential knowledge gaps in climate tipping point research, and offers a reference for the research planning and resource allocation of research funding agencies, research institutions, and international cooperation projects. It also helps build a more comprehensive knowledge base on climate tipping risks and provides scientific support for climate risk assessment and response.
