From April 21st to 23rd, the internationally famous rock mechanics expert, National Academy of Engineering of America (NAE)member, the professor of the University of California, Berkeley, Richard E. Goodman, and the Mathematical mechanics expert Shi Genhua and their delegation visited Northeastern University, and made the report of The Front Edge Forum Of Rock Mechanics in Northeastern University.
Professor Goodman mainly introduced the already- founded dam foundation engineering in America and rock mechanics related safety issues on the report of Some Safety Issues on Rock Engineering. After the report, Professor Goodman answered questions from the audience. About 180 people attended the report, who were experts form Northeastern University and China Architecture Design Institute and some other institutes.
During the visit, Professor Richard E. Goodman also visited the Rock Mechanics Laboratory of NEU, soil mechanics laboratoryand other laboratories, and informed the latest research outcomes of laboratories advanced equipment. Professor Richard E. Goodman also introduced the development situation of University of California, Berkeley, and its disciplinary development, international exchange. In the end he offered valuable suggestions for postgraduates’ research papers.
