On Mar. 28th,the last Saturday of March, all Northeastern University (NEU) students participatedin the Earth Hour event “Switch off, Blue on”, both in Nanhu Campus and HunnanCampus.
Initiated by NEUStudent Union, staffs, teachers and students signed “Low-carbon Green, Switchoff and Blue on” scroll. At 8:30 p.m., along with the countdown, lights of campusdormitory building extinguished gradually. As the suggestion, students left theinternet, get out from dormitory, and went to the playground. “Facing theclimate change, every one of us should contribute our efforts to improve the environment.Wish we can get the blue sky back.” Said Zheng Ziang, student from School ofMechanical Engineering and Automation, NEU.

The event is held worldwide annually encouragingindividuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off theirnon-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturdayin March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. It was famouslystarted as lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it hasgrown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. Today, Earth Hourengages a massive mainstream community on a broad range of environmentalissues. The one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now largermovement.
