On May 28th, Israeli Ambassador to China Matan Vilnai visited Northeastern University, and gave a speech on the topic of “Israel- science and technology nation”. Wang Fuli, vice-president of Northeastern University, met with Matan Vilnai. Staffs of Liaoning Province Foreign Affairs Office attended the meeting.
Wang Fuli welcomed Matan Vilnai, and indicated that Israel is a country that worthy of respect. In spite of the limited territorial area and resource, economic development of Israel is very dynamic. In addition, Israel’s science and technology innovation and education pattern are especially worth China learning from. He looked forward NortheasternUniversity could cooperate with Israel’s colleges and research institutions in the future.
Matan Vilnai indicated that though the number of research universities in Israel is far less than China, each university had at least one program that was cooperating with China. He would record NortheasternUniversity’s cooperation intention, and would be pleasure if this visit could promote cooperation between NortheasternUniversity and the universities of Israel’s.
During the speech, Matan Vilnai introduced Israel from aspects of history, local conditions and customs, population, main cities, and economic development, etc. He also demonstrated Israel’s unique characteristics and the ancient Jewish tradition- learning, as the world leader in science, technology and innovation. One visible indication is their outstanding share of Nobel Prizes in sciences: a nation of less than 1% of the world’s population has produces well over 25% of the winners.
