On June 15, at the invitation of the Interdisciplinary Mechanics Center of NEU, Academician Jean Zu, Dean of the School of Engineering & Science of Stevens Institute of Technology, visited NEU. Tang Lixin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice-president of NEU, met with Academician Jean Zu in Building 211. The Party and administration leaders of the Sci-tech Department, members of relevant leading bodies, and the head of the Interdisciplinary Mechanics Center of NEU attended the meeting.
Academician Jean Zu introduced the overall situation, the departments and programs in detail, and the enrollment and student exchange of Stevens Institute of Technology, as well as the overall status quo of American universities. Additionally, Academician Jean Zu listened to the report by the head of the Sci-tech Department on the situation of NEU and the department. Then, the two parties carried out in-depth exchanges and discussions on such matters as the development of international joint education. They reached an intention to conduct in-depth cooperation in the joint cultivation of students in basic disciplines and international scientific research collaboration by taking the Interdisciplinary Mechanics Center of NEU as the starting point.
Tang Lixin expressed welcome to Academician Jean Zu. As the largest school of Stevens Institute of Technology, the School of Engineering & Science accounts for nearly 75% of the institute’s volume, covering all science and technology disciplines and programs of the institute, thus having broad prospects for cooperation with NEU. It is hoped that Academician Jean Zu’s visit can promote international joint cultivation of students and international project cooperation between NEU and Stevens Institute of Technology, and that a comprehensive and three-dimensional international cooperation model can be gradually formed.
Before the meeting, Academician Jean Zu visited the Interdisciplinary Mechanics Center of NEU. Most science and engineering disciplines and programs involve mechanics, which plays a linking role among cross-listed disciplines. The School of Engineering & Science of Stevens Institute of Technology and the Interdisciplinary Mechanics Center of NEU have broad cooperation space in cross-talent cultivation and interdisciplinary scientific and technological innovation, said Academician Jean Zu.
