The NEU Global Alumni Innovation and Development Forum and the Second (Enlarged Session) Meeting of the Seventh Council of the Alumni General Association was Held.

On December 22, the NEU Global Alumni Innovation and Development Forum and the Second (Enlarged Session) Meeting of the Seventh Council of the Alumni General Association of the NEU was held in Beijing. Global alumni representatives gathered in Beijing to discuss collaborative development and envision a bright future, join hands to build a development community for NEUers. Together, they aim to create a big structure of NEU’s cooperation, accelerate the construction of a first-class university, improve quality and efficiency, and upgrade NEU’s positions, and jointly working towards the goal of "NEU contributing to boost the educational powerhouse."

Gan Yong, academician of China Academy of Engineering and chairman of NEU Board of Trustees, Zhang Bojun, member of Standing Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Committee and vice president of the Central Institute of Socialism, Lang Guanghui, vice chairman of NEU Board of Trustees and president of the Beijing Alumni Association, Chen Xuesen, member of Standing Committee and vice president of China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association, Guo Hai, secretary of NEU Party Committee, Feng Xiating, president of NEU and other school leaders, party committee secretaries and heads of major organs and departments of various colleges, the office of the Alumni General Association of the NEU and alumni representatives from all over the world attended the meeting. Zhang Hao, deputy secretary of NEU Party Committee, presided over the meeting.

The meeting first held the Global Alumni Innovation and Development Forum of NEU. Lang Guanghui, on behalf of the Beijing Alumni Association, the organizer of the meeting, delivered a speech stating that NEU is an institution with a century-old history and profound cultural heritage. Over the past century, numerous outstanding talents have been cultivated as an important force in driving social development. In the future, the Beijing Alumni Association will further promote the mutual promotion and development between alumni enterprises and alma mater, explore the path of cooperation between enterprises and alma mater, strive to promote the cooperation between schools and enterprises, and achieve substantial results in industry-university-research collaboration, and jointly contribute to the development of alma mater in the new century.

Feng Xating, under the title of “Pursuing Dreams for a New Century·Building Achievements for a New Journey·Striving for a New Situation in the Construction of First-class University”, introduced to the alumni the achievements of the university in recent years, expressed NEU's gratitude to the alumni for their support for the construction and development of the university, and placed high hopes on the participation of NEU alumni in the development of the university. Feng Xating said that with the support of the alumni, the university has continuously improved the level of discipline construction, established a new talent cultivation model featuring a broad foundation, interdisciplinary focus, emphasis on inspiration, and strongly practical training oriented to the urgent needs of the country, and cultivated the urgently-needed talents based on the optimization of the layout of disciplines and majors. It is hoped that the alumni at home and abroad will continue to support the reform, development and construction of NEU, contributing to and empowering for the high-quality development of the university.

Gan Yong, Jiang Xiangzhong and Chen Xuesen made keynote reports entitled “Strategy for Innovative Development of Modern New Materials”, “Supporting Education through Industrial Development, Strengthening the Country with Talents” and “Nonferrous Metals - An Important Support for the Development of New Quality Productivity in the New Era” respectively, which exchanged and shared their views on on the current development status and future trends of China's new materials industry, the development and innovation of the intelligent industry and the development prospects of the non-ferrous metals industry.

Guo Hai awarded the license for the “Joint Innovation” development base of the Beijing Alumni Association of the NEU.

In the second phase of the meeting, the Second (Enlarged Session) Meeting of the Seventh Council of the Alumni General Association of NEU was held. Wang Hui, vice president of NEU, on behalf of the Alumni General Association, made a report on the work of the Alumni General Association of NEU in 2024, reporting works from four aspects: planning and promoting the innovative development of alumni work, empowering and upgrading the global network of alumni organizations, integrating and converging the wisdom and power of alumni from all over the world, and focusing on enhancing the cultural impact of alumni activities.

The meeting approved three regulations of the Alumni General Association of NEU; it also approved the "Proposal on Changing the Legal Representative and President of the Council of the Alumni General Association of the NEU" and the "Proposal on Adjusting Some Members of the Council of the Alumni General Association of the NEU". Guo Hai, secretary of the NEU Party Committee, was elected as the legal representative and president of the Council of the Alumni General Association of the NEU. Guo Hai presented appointment letters to the new representatives of the council members.

Guo Hai said that NEU and its alumni are closely connected by roots and share weal and woe. The alumni have provided strong support and devoted a lot of efforts during the long-term school-running process of the university. They have also won wide acclaim for the university and its social influence has been improved. It is hoped that global alumni organizations will become the front line and organizational network for the university's enrollment and employment, external liaison, talent introduction, industry-university-research collaboration and achievement transformation, so as to endow the university with wisdom and capabilities, gather momentum and expand resources for its development. It is also hoped that the alumni will continue to support the development of the alma mater as always and work together with the university to continue writing a new chapter of glory for NEU in the new century.

At the meeting, Chen Bojun, president of the Shenzhen Alumni Association, Liu Xiang, president of the Jiangsu Alumni Association, Zhao Xuequn, president of the Jiaxing Alumni Association, Wang Ming, president of the New Zealand Alumni Association, and Lu Qiang, president of the Toronto Alumni Association, spoke as representatives of alumni associations, expressing the profound feelings of the alumni for NEU and looking forward to working together with the alma mater to jointly build a path of development in the future.

Zhang Hao read out the “Initiative for Global Alumni Cooperation and Development of NEU”, advocating that global alumni adhere to reform and innovation to achieve breakthroughs in development, and work together to forge a brilliant future.

Before the meeting, Zhang Bojun held talks with Guo Hai. They discussed deeply and fully exchanged on many aspects including school development, education reform and talent cultivation orientation.
